Autumn at The Elms

The Elms is located close to the Christchurch airport, and offers bed & breakfast and fully self-contained accommodation in the tranquil countryside just beyond the City’s northwest urban boundary. Originally settled by John Stanley, one of Christchurch’s earliest english settlers, the many elm trees planted by him over 150 years ago now soar more than 30 metres high.

Louise & Matthew Glubb purchased this portion of the original Stanley estate in 1991 and engaged notable New Zealand architect Jonty Rout to design a family home of a traditional style to sit naturally amongst the elms.   The house was completed in 1994 and just before Christmas Louise, Matthew and their four boys moved in.  The boys are all now adults who live away from home, returning home occasionally to check out the fridge.
